I have just got CCNA, now I m ready 2 move on to the next level, the professional certifications. I have interset in security.

but now there's the CCNA concentrations ( CCNA voice, CCNA wirless, CCNA security ) and there's the CCNP, the profssional level.

i'm little confused, what the best I can do for my networking career.

would it be better to get CCNA security to get CCSP or just go staight through CCNP??

How are you doing. As you know that CCNA is a associate/beginner level program and it only gives you the taste of the upcoming fields and foundations of the cisco network. Yes the CCNA has been concentrated with new add-ons. I think if you have some knowledge about the security while studyin CCNA then you should directly move to the CCSP. But , I suggest you to atleast hold a full grip on security by doing CCNA security. You have 2 ways here , the direct way and the alternate. Direct way is better but it gives you some problems about the advancement made in the security professional , but if you go through the alternate way there who problems will no longer come into your way coz you will be already aware of the things.

It's probably worth noting the prerequisites for the certifications too. If you were planning on going down the CCSP route the prerequisites for this exam are either CCNA Security OR CCNA + SND exam (SND exam retires 17th November 2008).

I personally chose to go the CCNA Security route.. In fact I plan to complete all four of the Associate level certifications prior to beginning the Professional level certs. The reason is that the Associate level certs renew one another and are prerequsites for the professional level certifications. My plan of action is this:

• CCNA Security (renews CCNA R&S)
• CCNA Wireless (renews both)
• CCNA Voice (renews all three)
• CCNP (Any test renews all prior)
• CCSP (ditto.. plus CCNA Security was a prerequisite)
• CCVP (" ")
• ETC…

If you just want CCSP then…

CCNA, CCNA Security, CCSP

If you want both CCSP and CCNP then…

CCNA, CCNA Security, CCSP, CCNP or vice versa… You will touch the material from associate level exams again anyway! Hope this helps!!!

Ehazen's Study Goal On CCNA Certification

For the past 5 years I've been that lone hero in the back room. Monitoring servers, measuring performance, and fixing errors all to keep a few computers running with high availability. It has been an interesting road and I've become an expert at the Windows Server enviroment and I'm not to shabby with the Linux enviroment either.

However, there's one major frustration I have with working in the systems environment and that is the scope of the job. I'm constantly asked if I can write a program, create a new object oriented database, create web page graphics, configure several different brands of switches and routers, etc. Well I'm sure you get my point; the Network Administrator position in most company's eyes is that an around everything IT related job.

Although it's fun to have something different everyday it doesn't allow me to develop a very unique skill set that's worth a lot (I want to start a side IT consulting company for a supplemental income). Because of this I decided that my general Bachelors degree in computer science isn't enough. I needed a certification but I wanted one that'd change my roll from that all to general network administrator. I had a few choices, but I decided the best would be networking. I'm not talking about getting two computers to play well together. I'm referring to the links that you see going from businesses to ISP's or B2B, etc. This is a very technical field and requires a very specialized skill set. It was exactly what I wanted, something that I could learn and then update once a year rather than once every 3 months. This field also put me in a great place to have alternate career paths later on when I'm ready for a change. I could easily add a few things and become a network design professional, a security professional, or a specialized project manager.

So what's the plan now? Well first things first, I need to get my certifications. I'll start off with my CCNA and probably late this year or early next year move toward my CCNP. I'll probably stay in that general Network Administrator's job for another 2-3 years while I gain actual experience taking side projects at night or weekends.

You are running both RADIUS as well as TACACS+ servers in your example configuration. I was wondering what RAD/TACS you were running on those two servers? FreeRadius? And what Tac Plus? Just trying to determine what software you are using for your lab studies! Thanks!

The previous example isn’t my config but rather just a list of commands to be familiar with and so I’m not actually running TACACS+ and RADIUS on the separate server addresses that I have shown.

I do my lab work using GNS3 with the C3745-ADVENTERPRISEK9_SNA-M IOS and currently I’m using the 90-day trial version of Cisco ACS 4.2 running on a Win2k3 VMWare box.

Just for interest I’ve attached a text file showing a basic config I’ve used for testing TACACS+. I have enabled debugs on aaa authentication and IP packets between the router and the ACS server and then attempted to logon to the router via SSH.

Which Router Should I Buy For CCNA?

So you want to get your CCNA and you need to buy a router for your CCNA home lab? Now the question is which router should you get? I have been in your shoes and know when you are just starting out, it is tough to make sense of all the different models of Cisco Routers available. The good news is there are a lot of good options available to get a good CCNA router for a fair price.

I recommend getting a Cisco 2611 Router or a Cisco 2621 Router because they have to two Copper ports instead of one and offer the most training flexibility. If the cost isn’t much different, go for the 2621 because it offers 2 10/100 Ethernet ports and has 128MB of memory versus the 2611 that has 2 10Mb ports with 64MB of memory. Don’t forget to buy 2 routers as most of the CCNA Labs require two routers. You could also get 3 routers, but from my experience, you will rarely actually need 3 routers to practice for your CCNA.

Another issue that comes into play is the IOS. If you can get a router with 12.4 already installed, you are way ahead of the game. Remember, the only legal way you can get a copy of the IOS is to buy a Cisco Smartnet contract for your router. If worse comes to worse, look for 12.3, but do your best to avoid 12.2. While it is a solid IOS for production, the new CCNA really focuses on the newer 12.4 version and some commands may be different from what you are learning.

This recommendation is for building a CCNA Home Lab. If you plan on building a CCNP Home Lab, then you should check back later for a post about which router you should buy for CCNP. The great part is even though the routers for CCNP are more expensive, if you buy them while working on your CCNA, you can use them for both certifications.

Also, if you have the money, you may be better off buying a complete CCNA Home Lab. You can usually find a complete CCNA Lab Kit including 2 or more routers and 1 or more Cisco Switches. Just keep in mind what I said about the routers.

A CCNA Certification is Just the Beginning…

A question I consistently get from my CCNA students when I teach a Cisco networking associate certification class is: What will I be expected to do in a new position working with computer networks.

Completion of the CCNA exam gives you a credential, but it doesn’t give you experience. While you do get lots of book learning and some hands-on troubleshooting as you prepare for an exam, you will have a much better idea of what to expect to face in a new network administrator position if you have had some real-world experience.

In fact, I tell my students that they should try to get as much hands-on experience with Cisco routers and switches as possible before considering a job in networking, and it really does help in preparing for the exam.

Students expecting to break into the networking gig once they pass their CCNA should also be prepared to encounter challenges in security, a fundamental area of networking. Additionally, network administrators are more likely now to address issues in two newer technology areas: wireless and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Knowledge in these three areas is critical if you want to stand out among other job applicants and hit the ground running in a new job.

On the wireless front, understanding the 640-802.11 specification is key–the differences between 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and 640-802.11n protocols. While there’s a chapter dedicated to wireless in the CCNA prep books, getting a solid understanding of these technologies will help you in any networking job, especially since wireless and networking go hand in hand at many companies.

VoIP is another technology area that you should understand pretty well for a new networking job. Phone systems aren’t what they used to be. Now phones are part of the network and integrate with data as a critical part of any business. Understanding VoIP before you get there will make a new networking job that much easier. Understanding Cisco’s VoIP and unified communications offerings will definitely give you an advantage.

Security is more critical than ever! The more you know, the better. Preparing for the CCNA, you will learn the basics of password and general security processes; on the job, you’ll be expected to understand security at a significantly deeper level—particularly if the organization you join has regulatory compliance requirements or is a target for hacking, for example. The U.S. government, for instance, has to deal with over 3 million hacker attacks per day. While you may not work for an organization that has to deal with this kind of onslaught, you will likely still be expected to take the necessary measures to secure the company’s network and data assets. CCIE 350-001 Stduy Guide: Routing and Switching Written Exam

CCIE 350-001 Written Exam: You must pass the two-hour, written qualification exam which covers networking concepts and some equipment commands before you are eligible to schedule the lab exam.

CCIE 350-001 Lab Exam: The eight-hour lab exam tests your ability to configure actual equipment and get the network running in a timed test situation. You must pass the lab within three years of passing the written to achieve certification. Your first lab attempt must be made within 18 months.

Study Tips

1. Buy a few books. This seems simple enough, but I've found there are two types of books lists for the CCIE - those for the lab and those for the written. They're not the same. For our purposes here, there are two things we want to accomplish with our reading: to quickly get the written out of the way to start the long road to the lab; and to try as much as possible to conserve money and time by finding and reading materials that are applicable to both.
2. Download sample exams. There are several available, including www.certay.com and www.exam4sure.com, but regardless of which vendor's questions you choose, take advantage of a significant pool of questions, and select products by different authors. The subject matter for this exam is broad, and you want a good selection of material to study from.
3. Print out a copy of the exam blueprint from the Cisco website. Candidates have the option of gaining the certification by passing two tests (ICND1 640-822 and ICND2 640-816), or one single test (CCNA 640-802); the two-test option has the advantage of allowing the candidate to focus on certain subjects.

The certification is valid for three years; at that time a CCNA holder must either

• re-take the CCNA or ICND exam, or
• take and pass an exam for one of the Professional (e.g., CCNP) or Specialist level certifications (excluding the sales specialist exams), or pass the CCIE written exam.

These exams are known by their corresponding numbers. When the curriculum of the exam changes the exam number also changes. The current exam number for CCNA is 640-802 (from 15 Aug 2007). New ICND Part1 (640-822 ICND1) and ICND Part2 (640-816 ICND2) available from Aug 2007. Part 1 by itself will give you a CCENT.

These exams are conducted by authorized test centers at a cost of $125 USD each for the ICND1 or ICND2 exams and, effective 06.23.2008, $250 USD for the full CCNA exam.

Prepare For Cisco CCNA Certification

I saw many of times here that people request here for dumps and confuse that how to start CCNA study? What is the best video training? etc. The main mission of sadikhov dat com isnt producing more and more braindumpers which already is happening here.Braindumper born in CCNA(all associate levels i mean CCDA etc) forums and then they create prob in CCNP(All professional levels i mean CCNP&CCSP etc) forums. So i decided to post a brief note on that.

It will be dedicated to all CISCO guys who are really studying and doing hardwork and have 0% relay on dumps. CCNA is very simple you just need to hang with me for few mints.

How to prepare CCNA?

There are 2 possibilities:

1. U already joined or looking for an institute.
or
2. U are self studying.

1. Regular CCNA study through institute :

If you can afford and u find any well reputed and well equipped (with all necessary cisco devices) institute in your area then you should consider ur self lucky and take the admission ASAP. It is highly recommended way of study i suppose because you can work on real routers and switches and learn live through good teachers.

Note:- I already wasted my few months and money in 2 low level institutes so please while deciding institute ask the current/X students of that institute.

My own qout = = > ”Read before the teacher teach.”
Always try to study the topic which the teacher don’t teach you yet i mean next lecture.By this way you can ask more questions to teacher at real time beause u already knew the basics of that topic + this isn’t new for you and when teacher will teach you, your all doubts will be clear and i found it v v helpful for long life/better understand.

2. CCNA through self study :

i) If you have a network background then u can start with CISCO press books but i recommend for fresh net workers to use sybex press because it is easy as compared to CISCO for beginners.
Note:- CCNA Curriculum 4 modules is highly recommended for making strong CISCO basics.If you belongs from span then you are lucky bcz a Spanish version is also available on sadikhov.

You should also study through video trainings bcz

a) These are made for whole world not for any specific institute/students.
b) You can take same lecture as many times as you want and at any suitable time when u have some free time for study.
c) Almost in all video trainings u can view live labs on live routers so it would also strong ur Lab knowledge.
d) Almost all are free on sadikhov so u need not worry to buy these.

Mr personal experience says that option b is better bcz as you go through 1 or 2 times with video training then you read book and you will feel that this book is very easy LOL. Anyway its upon you that what u like.

My way of study is that i also convert them in audio mp3 form(by using Allok AVI-MPEG-WMV-RM-to-MP3-Converter) and listen while on bed, on driving or any relax time.But only for revision so these topics are easily sit in my mind forever.You can try it i hop it will be very helpfull.

2ndly many CCIE stuff provider companies are making audio boot camp for example Ipexprt dat com ,videoed dat com etc so this little habit also will help to you in future when you will enter in CCIE game.
